Consortium Members collaborate to effectively and efficiently investigate pre-competitive fundamental bitumen production technologies for advances in bitumen recovery from the oil sands and to further the development of Canada’s oil sands.

Recent projects have included investigations of new catalysts, impact of clays and fines on recovery, ways to improve water recovery and dewatering processes, exploration of biological processes and applications, and evaluation of new/improved tailings technologies.
The current chair of the Steering Committee is Heather Herring from Total E&P Canada and the current chair of the Technical Committee is Andrea Sedgwick from Total E&P Canada.
The BPFRG Consortium Members are: Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions, Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Fort Hills Energy L.P., Imperial Oil Resources Limited, Northern Lights Partnership through Total E&P Canada, Shell Canada Ltd., and Syncrude Canada. Membership in the Consortium is limited and is not extended to other CONRAD members except by invitation from the existing Consortium Members.
